e-Nable Italia – Experiments

Faire: Rome

Maker: Energy Family Project APS (e-Nable Italia)

Our community is dedicated to developing and providing free assistive devices for children and adults with limb difference problems. All of our projects are either open source derivatives or released by us (when original creations from our community) as open source. After SwimAble (the device for swimming, 2021) and the Bike Adapter (the device for cycling, 2022), this year we present the new ideas developed by our volunteers: the low-cost robotic hand prototypes and the devices that can help children to practice sports and in their free time, including an evolution of the bike adapters to be able to practice archery, a device that allows children with limb difference problems to play the drums and a tool for makers without 3d engineering skills that dynamically generates custom STL models of assistive devices adapted to the physical and anatomical characteristics of the recipients, to broaden accessibility to these devices.

Thirty minutes to infiltrate the computer system of the Nerd Corporation to prevent the evil organization from launching a cyber attack. This is the challenge to be solved in the escape room created by the Cybersecurity National Lab of the CINI (National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics) and the IMT School of Advanced Studies Lucca. The objective is to raise awareness of cybersecurity and the relationship between privacy, digital and exposure to risk. A team of volunteer hackers will be trained and sent on a mission to break into the Nerd Corporation's lair and to steal its secret plans. It is played in teams made up of a maximum of 4 people, divided between a team on the field and a team at the terminal. The field team recovers clues and moves through the escape room while the terminal team uses computer tools to solve the challenges. How to contain global temperature rise, or how to stop polluting? To such important questions we will answer with solutions which are simple, obvious and ironic, because simplicity and playfulness are children's prerogatives. Getting inspiration from Munari's illustrated books Machines and from Impossible Objects, we will invent new unseen machines. Hands will give a shape to thoughts, using drawings and collage. Art, reading and the workshop are tools, necessary to develop individual creativity, at service of the community. The goal il to educate through Art, and playing freely is our means to achieve it

Innovative buoyancy elements for snorkeling, scuba diving and deep sea applications

Faire: Rome

Maker: Rainer Kuth

Problem: During scuba diving and other deep sea / underwater applications common tools like lamps, cameras, knifes, fins, masks, etc. sink fast when accidentally lost, because their density is higher than water. Sportive divers with deep-licenses can dive up to 40m for a short time and tech divers for app. 100m after complex preparation of highly sophisticated equipment and training. Loss of tools is frequent, expensive and dangerous, because sea is deeper than that at most places. Challenge: Manufacturing buoyancy elements + with a density significantly less than water + while these shall withstand high hydraulic pressure + while the buoyancy force should be exactly defined and independent of depth is not trivial. Solution: 3d printing / additive manufacturing using special parameters upon printing and optionally with hybrid processes support making buoyancy elements with individual shape and buoyancy force. With such e.g. a loss of a mask with individual glasses for 1000€ is avoided: the mask will slowly rise to the water surface for save and easy recovery. Making such buoyancy elements is possible with a 3d printer for less than 500€, a free 3d construction software and a free slicing software using special parameters. Contribution: I will show on the booth: + Free design software for buoyancy elements + Free slicing software +

FPV IoT Micro Tanks

Faire: Rome

Maker: Oleksandr Poliakov

Many of us still remember how, as children, we spent hours in front of the TV, playing the legendary Battle City. And what would happen if the game was being developed these days? Of course we would want to play it over the Internet and perhaps with AR glasses. But what if we went even further and brought it into the real world? Where we could drive around in a handmade arena, or in a hallway. We can fire an infrared cannon at the enemy, or at his base. Or just chase pets? And since these are IoT tanks - we can control them from the browser. Or even write javascript code to control them!

WoodyMaker

Faire: Rome

Maker: Manuela Quaglietti

WoodyMaker produces objects that we have baptized original, special, beautiful "things" to give on different occasions, something that remains, can be worn or exhibited, capable of communicating data, messages and emotions. The project is based on the creativity of a craftsman who works wood with new generation tools such as lasercut to produce "things" engraved with a "code" that communicates with a software platform created to give the customer the possibility to customize that "thing" and communicate something to third parties. We went further… creating “things” that contain electronic boards and sensors able to communicate with the surrounding environment! Our project aims to demonstrate how creativity and old crafts can merge with new technologies to create "things" that are pleasant to look at, made with natural materials, a new profession is born, the technological craftsman. WoodyMaker aims to bring craftsmanship to the fore in a new form! You will be able to see and touch surprising "things" at the fair that will be exhibited in preview, discover details and have all kinds of information, for the little ones we have created educational courses to learn the basic techniques for creating 2D/3D models.

EGGS

Faire: Rome

Maker: Sapienza Università di Roma

EGGS are multifunctional chairs designed to inspire creative associations and playful combinations. Children, like little chicks, play with eggs, a primordial form, a symbol of life. From the opening of the eggs comes the surprise, with many ways of use, a lot of imagination to invent and create new environments to play. The egg as a symbol of perfect shape, perceptible to all, easy to communicate and mean. In the egg there is expectation, development, birth and transformation. The colors of nature include a range of yellows for the yolk, ranging from light yellow to dark orange, almost red, while white is provided for the albumen. Obviously, with a fantastic interpretation, we can attribute to the albumen and yolk colors different from those recognizable in nature, contrasting with each other, with a beautiful impact and very bright tones. So I thought of two series: 4 or 6 eggs, coordinated and well matched in their colors. By considering the interchangeability of the yolks or their halves, you can always get new combinations. EGGS are therefore nice furnishings, which if necessary can perform the function of seating, foot rests, fun objects to play with your body, build and create attractive, original and colorful environments, .... all child-sized.
