O f@b.SmartCity nasceu do projeto f@b.TGV no Ano Europeu do Transporte Ferroviário. Inicialmente assentava na construção de um comboio e respetivas infraestruturas adjacentes, permitindo aos alunos o desenvolvimento de competências na área do desenho, eletrónica, robótica e telecomunicações, sensibilizando-os ainda para temas como o ambiente e a sustentabilidade. Com estes últimos temas, surgiu a ideia de criar uma cidade inteligente e ao mesmo tempo sustentável do ponto de vista energético e dos demais recursos. Para a exposição transportamos apenas uma fração de dimensão reduzida do f@b.SmartCity, dada a impossibilidade de movimentar o projeto patente nas instalações do f@b.CPL.

Building of the USS Mariano G. Vallejo in LEGO Bricks

We plan to build a scale model of the USS MG Vallejo submarine built with LEGO bricks and the slipway it was built on. The model will be 10-11 feet long with a cutaway side of the ship revealing the interior compartments. The display would be a historical educational tool that will eventually become a permanent display at our retail store in Vallejo.

A large broken jar supports three beautiful giant fireflies, featuring interactive fire and LED elements at night, and providing an interesting destination during the day. The pieces of the jar contain seating, and glow during the night. Around the jar are smaller fireflies and benches, providing a welcoming destination. A fire pit in the middle of the space makes for a nice place to hang out, roast a marshmallow, and enjoy the scene. Each giant firefly contains a unique variety of participant-activated flame effects, with up to 24 buttons for people to push. LED illuminated fireflies surround the site, flickering glows in the sky, while an interactive soundscape creates an immersive environment.
