Sport-graf

Faire: Rome

Maker: IIS Edoardo Amaldi Roma

Sport-graf is a device capable of detecting the electrical activity of the muscle through the application of three electrodes on the skin, treated with the Arduino UNO board and a wave amplifier. The device consists of a breadboard housing the components of the power supply and amplification circuits. The amplifier is powered, through a dual generator, by a lithium ion battery. The chip amplifies the signal (INA128P) coming from the three electrodes and supplies an analog output read by the analog port of the Arduino, which, thanks to the serial plotter, shows a graph with the trend of the contraction and distension activity of the muscle fibres.

Watercolor Plotter

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Matous Vana

Home: California, United States

I have a homebuilt and designed plotter that paints with watercolor. Fairgoers are able to interact with the project by mixing watercolors in a series of plots and then seeing my plotter turn their selected colors into a generative art piece! I exhibited at Open Sauce this year and I had a really fun time and people seemed to enjoy my work, I'd love to reprise that at Maker Faire! I also work with pen and I plan to have a variety of post-card sized works for sale at my booth.

Robot On! presents Kung-Fu Fighting Robot SHOTWELL

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Robot On!

Home: California, United States

Team Robot On! presents Shotwell, a Kung-Fu Fighting Robot with 15 metal gear servo motors for forceful punches and lighting quick maneuvers. Shotwell entered the arena for the first time at Robogames 2023, weighing in at 1.9 kg and 14 inches tall, placing fourth in Kung-Fu and taking silver medal in weight lifting. Kung-fu involves 2 remote-controlled robots in a boxing ring throwing uppercuts, side kicks, blocks, and dodges. Shotwell utilizes a leg linkage which keeps the legs parallel to the ground, a waist rotation axis, and beefy 2000 mAh LiPo battery. Designed and built by Kris Magri, a former Make: Magazine intern, piloted by Matt Ebisu, avid robot builder and robotics grad student, and kept in motion by operations manager Patty W.

Volta pagine automatico per scanner

Faire: Rome

Maker: Sapienza Università di Roma

In recent times, electronic books have become more popular than physical books due to their ease of portability, searchability, and quick access to a vast number of titles. This has led to a growing preference for e-books among researchers, scientists, and students. Additionally, the creation of e-books makes it easy to preserve the physical copies of old, valuable books while still using them as much as needed. To create an e-book from a hard copy of a book, a common scanner found in libraries or universities is the desktop scanner. The book is placed under the scanner, and the pages are manually turned by the person scanning the text after each scan. However, when dealing with a large number of books, the bottleneck in the scanning process is the need to turn each page manually after each scan. To address this challenge, we have designed a system that includes a 3-bar mechanism, a stepper motor, and an Arduino board. The system is connected to the scanner and flips the pages automatically after each scan. The primary and core component of this system is the 3-link mechanism that flips every page using two actions: detaching and flipping. The stepper motor rotates and transfers the necessary torque to the connected gears, which in turn, transfers the rotational motion of the motor to the reciprocating angular motion of the detaching link. This causes the detaching link to move from the outside of the book to the middle of the target page, detaching the upper page from the others. Another link connected to the detaching link turns immediately afterward to completely flip the detached page. This system offers several advantages, including adjustability to accommodate book dimensions and the table or desk on which scanning is done. Before starting to scan, the system can be positioned and fixed according to the book's size and clamped on the table. In this way, the system can help users scan large volumes of pages quickly and efficiently without wasting time and energy turning pages manually. In conclusion, this automated scanning system is a cost-effective solution, with all the required parts readily available in the market. It can help users rapidly scan documents with minimal effort and save valuable time, especially when dealing with a high number of pages.

Sedia a rotelle elettrica per tetraplegici

Faire: Rome

Maker: IIS Tito Sarrocchi

In the 2022-2023 school year, the students of class IV and V of the Electronic Robotics specialization allowed tetraplegic people, i.e., person with inability to voluntarily move the upper and lower parts of the body, to move independently and using the residual mobility of the head. An Arduino NANO 33 BLE and an inertial sensor present on board allow to intercept the movements of the head and, through the Bluetooth module, the information of the head movements is delivered to a self-built Master board and subsequently, through the DAC, the voltages are created to run the engines. Moreover, a set of sensors on the perimeter of the wheelchair avoids obstacles and a LIDAR sensor helps reconstruct the surrounding environment.
