Animation Studio for junior makers by SnackNotes

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Brian Van Osdol

SnackNotes presents “Animation Studio for Junior Makers,” a space where kids can have fun making their own drawings come alive! This exhibit is an activity-focused experience designed for young makers. Kids (and grownups!) can try different ways of making animations. Kids learn how to make basic two-frame animations that they can create anywhere with just a pencil and paper. Kids can also make a multi-frame animation viewable on a spinning zoetrope that can be built at home. These activities come with accompanying educational materials, fun animation examples, and templates. This exhibit is part of a new project called SnackNotes, where Brian (dad of 2 and engineer) shares creative projects that kids and parents can try at home.

Expanse

Faire: Bay Area

Maker: Laurence Renzo Verbeck

Expanse delves into the profound exploration of geometry, humanity's primal language. In paying homage to Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, Expanse both embraces and extends his legacy, breaking free from the traditional constraints of geometric definitions. It honors the narratives of our history while propelling us beyond these boundaries, ushering us into a realm of fresh, organic, and ethereal evolution. Hand-carved from two solid, fire-salvaged redwood logs over a two year period, this female form expands beyond the representative geometry ( depicted here by a steel ring with ten interial facits) such geometry by previous generations. Expanse was publicly displayed for the first (and only) time at Burning Man in 2023 before its debut in Mare Island.
