USE OF AI FOR THE MAPPING OF AGRI-ENVIRONMENTAL XENBIOTIC CONTAMINATION USING TERRITORIAL MICRO-SAMPLING CARRIED OUT BY BEES

Faire: Rome

Maker: FOSAN ETS

Bees play a fundamental role in ecosystems and are present throughout the territory (at our latitude). The bee carries out its collection and pollination activity in a radius ranging between 2 and 10 km, and is attracted only by plants and clean water, avoiding contact with any waste and/or waste material. Every day, on average, a worker bee visits up to 7,000 flowers, fulfilling its very important role for the ecosystem. Any xenobiotic contamination present in the materials collected by bees and derived products are representative of the contamination of the flora and surface waters of the area where the hive is located. Fosan is starting the creation of a mapping of sentinel hives located throughout the country, in order to monitor the conditions of environmental risk from xenobiotic contamination. The analytical data referring to the samples taken in the various "sentinel hives" are processed with AI techniques to identify level curves of xenobiotic contamination and related hotspots, and the presumed connections with human activities. With AI, the presumed correlations between the recorded anthropic activities and the levels of contamination of the hive products are identified.

Dalla prospettiva ai modelli fisici dello spazio architettonico in un’opera di Perugino

Faire: Rome

Maker: Sapienza Università di Roma

The perspective study of a panel from the “Storie di san Bernardino” attributed to Perugino revealed a contracted space, represented in three dimensions by the ‘objective model’. In contrast, the ‘ideal model’ eliminates the deformation and maintains the architectural proportions. The installation creates a physical model that allows even non-specialist audiences to appreciate the scientific results by positioning the eye (or camera) at the fixed viewpoint to verify the overlap between the view of architectural model and the painter’s perspective.

Social and Autonomous robots: the MARRtino family

Faire: Rome

Maker: Fabio Ferrarin

Innovators by vocation, making use of the collaboration with the Department of Automatic and Management Computer Engineering of the La Sapienza University of Rome, we work for the growth of the MARRtino family. In the space of a few years the family has expanded and perfected it by creating prototypes of educational and "useful" robots. Everything is open source (hardware and software) so it can be extended in any direction without constraints, an evolutionary robot as we usually define it. Based on ROS, a professional software (ROS) used in the best MARRtino research centers has been implemented and tested to perform many typical Robotics and Artificial Intelligence tasks, such as intelligent navigation, human-robot spoken interaction, image analysis.

Safecutter

Faire: Rome

Maker: Mr Beam Lasers GmbH

The "Safecutter" project is a collaboration between scientists from the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology (INP) Greifswald and the Munich-based company Mr Beam Lasers GmbH, which specialises in the construction and sale of desktop laser cutting systems. With a desktop laser cutter, detailed engravings and the cutting of many different materials are possible. A perfect introduction to the world of lasers. Until now, this technology could only be used industrially. The reason was mainly the high acquisition costs and the potential danger. Since, depending on the material, different, sometimes toxic gases and vapours can be produced during the cutting process and the laser cutters are operated indoors, we are looking into how laser cutting can be made safer with regard to the exhaust gases in our research work. The focus is thus on ensuring safety. By: - hazardous material is detected before use - cleaning up any waste gases produced - analysing the composition of the exhaust gas - a safety shutdown is integrated Another important aspect of the work is the accessibility of laser cutting for the masses. Therefore, we designed low cost methods that make the purchase of the final product financially justifiable for the user and still reduce the dangers to a minimum. Ultimately, it is important for us to invest in this research topic because laser cutters and products of this kind should be available to a broad mass. But safe. Laser safe. The project was supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the "Open Photonik Pro" funding measure of the "Photonik Forschung Deutschland" programme. The funding measure is intended to enable new forms of cooperation between science and industry and the maker and start-up scene.
